Intro Letter for David Sosa

My name is David Sosa and I am from Chicago, Illinois. I went to a relatively small public elementary school that served K through 8th grades students. There were only about six-hundred students. I then went to LakeView High School with a student body of about nine-hundred. I lived in Chicago until I graduated from high school and left to join the Marine Corps. I used my GI Bill to help pay for my undergraduate degree. I attended Palomar College for about four years and Cal State San Marcos for about three; there was a year overlap between the two schools, so it only took me six years to get my BA in Literature and Writing Studies.

I don’t have much experience with technology besides working with Word2000, sending emails, and working with Blackboard and the WebCT CSUSM used in 2005. My only experience with computers is also only limited to PCs. I currently work with a Compaq computer with Windows 98 that my wife’s parents bought us ten years ago. Our printer is an up-to-date stone tablet, a chisel and a mallet. My daughters have more experience with computers because they are always logging onto Webkinz, a program on the web that accompanies some of their stuffed animal toys they were given as presents.

A deciding factor for me applying to CSUSM’s credential program is the concept of using current teachers from the school districts in the local communities. By recruiting teachers that are currently teaching in the public schools where we will be doing our student teaching and eventually working, I feel these educators have more credibility than someone with little experience, outdated experience, or only theory-based experience in teaching students in the public school system. Another important deciding factor for me attending CSUSM was that I got my BA here and I know this is a great place to learn.
